Howdy y'all,
Still recovering from a 5 day battle with the crafty Whitetail. Opening morning, after a slow first 3 hours in the blind, Bill and I were headed out to another farm when he spotted a buck bedded with a doe in a small 10 yard square grass patch in the middle of a cut corn field. Game on, let's get him!!!!! With the howling winds we were able to sneak within about 170 yards and after a few minutes and deciding not too shoot as I could not make out his vitals where he was bedded, the joker decides to stretch his legs. "You on him Bill??? Yep, he says, so I let the Knight muzzleloader eat and pop, not bang, pop, MISFIRE. The buck doesn't hear it, and beds down 5 feet further in and I have no shot. I decide with the high wind to try and come around the topside of him and see if I can get in close. 2 hours and 100 plus yards of belly sneaking I get 20 yards awy. I am practically bedded down with him and the doe (all of this is on video). The grass is too high and I can't see him. Lucky for me, the doe he's bedded with somehow sees me and she explodes out of there and takes Big Daddy with her. Coolest sneak ever, and at the same time really disappointing. Later in the day, as Bill and I were headed back to the blind, we were stopped short by a few deer milling around on the hillside, so we decided to stay put and see what happens. The wind was howling and we were about 5 feet apart when Bill caught movement of another Deer or 2 walking into the same area as the others. The second Deer I know is a buck before I even get the Bino's up. "Monster Bill, Giant buck!!!" Bill scrambles to get the camera and tripod to the the fence to film as I get my gun rested on the fence to make the shot. In the high wind we couldn't hear each other and I didn't pull the trigger unsure if he had him on video (which he did), and the buck got into the timber and never gave us another shot. After reviewing the footage we estimate the Deer in the 180-190 class as a incredible 10 pointer. Easily the best deer I have ever seen while hunting. I sat in the ground blind the next 2 days hoping to see him again, but didn't. A couple other close calls but those 2 were the hilites. Sucks when the Deer win, but that's what makes it great when we win. Best of luck to all of you still holding tags. I'm going to bed.
Keep it Real

Bill will be adding pictures shortly and I am too tired from the quest to detail it all out; so many of the details and fun stories will wait till the new DVD.
BUT----------Let me say this, with 15 days left in November we have been able to put together nearly 20 kills so far and many of our top people (men and women hunters) are still in hot pursuit. Gun season is still 2 plus weeks away. What a incredible run it's been again. Keep checking back on the site has some of the pics and video clips will be popping up soon. Great luck too all of you and to all of you GOODNITE!!!!!
p/s - Off to Wisconsin in 2 days, wish me luck

Howdy y'all,
What a "Classic!!" I'm talking not only about the Iowa Deer Classic, which set new attendance records, but also the new Iowa Giants DVD. Thanks to Bill for his great editing efforts, Toad for building the coolest booth at the show and to our awesome Pro Staff. The biggest thanks however, goes to all of you who sent in hunts and buy our video.
We have a great time working with and meeting all of you "Real" people out there. We are incredibly blessed to be doing something we love and along the way help others achieve their dreams as well. Keep it "Real" and we'll see you out there in the field and hopefully in the editing room as well.
Love,
Canjo

Picture Below.....What a tremendous year it has been. After being fortunate enough to tag a nice buck on video Oct. 30,Bill and I decided to take the Knight Vision Muzzleloader and the PD170 out opening morning gun season. For any of you who were out there, you know what an adventure that weather was (even with a pop up blind)!! The morning started off great. We got settled in the blind next to a sweet little bedding area, and as we started to thaw and dry, a few does filtered in. Minutes later we heard a few gun blasts not far away and a few more does showed, followed by a decent eight pointer. I'm not normally the type to pass any decent buck, though I always tell myself and friends I am going to. Seems adrenaline always gets the best of me!!
For some reason, Saturday morning I let him walk. Maybe a hour or so later, after Bill caught some wonderful footage of me peeing in the blind, (not sure we'll ever grow up), I hear those words you love to hear.
"Buck coming, Big Buck, Shooter"
It always seems to happen quite fast, but as I lower my gun and get him in the scope I can tell he is easily good enough for me. The buck seems fairly calm as he trots in. He stops quartering to at 97 yards (we ranged it after the shot), and although much of his body is behind the tree, I have all of his near shoulder and a bit more available to me. With the crosshairs settled in solid I touched it off. It felt like a good smooth shot.
After the smoke finished rolling out the windows (think cheech and chong)we reviewed the video and believed that the deer was hit, and indeed after a bit of tense tracking, he was. The copper sabot found it's mark perfectly and the deer had died within 75 yards. What a Year, What a Deer!!

P.S. Cody Wright is rumored to have scored last nite of bow and 1st nite of gun. Both on film. Great job Cody. Can't wait to hear and see your story!!

For those of you that have not heard yet, Pro Staffer Nick "Snoose" Whitaker bagged a dandy last week. His brother Cory apparently laid down some killer footage. As soon as Bill gets done with his latest pottery project, pictures will be posted. I've seen 'em and it is a dandy buck. Just a week earlier he had a close encounter and by his own admission blew it. Great video on that one as well. Congrats Snoose on sticking with it. Way to represent Mepo. Two years in a row.
Update - 10 great kills already bagged for the DVD, and a few unfilled bow tags to go. (and the guys holding those tags are more than capable to still get it done). Gun season starts Saturday. Bill's filming me and we are packing lunch and going deep cover. Next time I break radio silence, blood will have been spilled.

What a hunt last nite. After a great off season of scouting a farm we have hunted for years. We found a lil honey hole tucked away that you would never think was much of anything, but the sign told a different story.
Nite 1 - Oct 27th
Could not have been more enthused to find out if our scouting paid off. It would be the first time in this set and I was certain we'd kill a buck first nite. We didn't but it was a great hunt none the less. Saw a nice buck in the distance chasin and had no less than 20 deer come give us a look that nite. Many does and a few small bucks grunting and chasing, how exciting....let the games begin.
Nite 2 - November 1st
Sweet November!! We could wait no longer, I had just tagged out 2 days prior and Bill and I were dying to get back in there. 2 hours before sunset a 110 inch buck drops in, a 1/2 hour later a beautiful 2 year old 120 comes a callin and after another hour or so of does getting run by these scrappers wouldn't you know it, here comes the one you dream of. A picture is worth a thousand words, a video clip is worth a million. Bill's on his way over and I'll try to get the hi lites posted here. Real Hunting close call #1. Unbelievable.
Who will be the next to score? You boys ain't gonna let me take the cover with my lil scrapper are ya?
p.s. pay attn to those moon times, had a buddy tag out this a.m. at 7:30, best moon time for today 7:36.
